  • George Cayford

George Cayford(born in 1931) was trained at the Royal College of Art and worked as a graphic designer and illustrator with his own design company. Later he was head-hunted by the London College of Printing and taught graphic design and illustration whilst continuing with his own commercial career. George's skill lies in the sure way he captures on paper the spontaneous poses adopted by his models. His method is to draw at speed with charcoal or pastels. The speed of the drawing medium is important to him: it enables him to set the image he sees down quickly. His drawings are attempts to capture moments of spontaneity and freshness.

  • Berlin Club and Pop-art by Hans & Paulus

From kinetic "Pattern Paintings" to portraits of vulnerable club kids, Berlin gay artists Paulus Fugers' & Hans Booy's colllaborative postmodern paintings fuse political content with a sissy interest in the language of ornamentation. The paintings are woven into elaborate lounge installations (incorporating design, electronic music, and projections) that have been on view in clubs, festivals and galleries in Europe and China.

After the war he is an art student in San Francisco and discovers a world where being queer is normal. He goes to Italy and meets a lawyer. They rent a house next door to the girl he’ll marry only months later. The story describes the dilemma a homosexual goes through when he begins loving a woman...while still carrying on with his male lover. He brings his wife to America and gets a job with a film company that sends them to Mexico. His wife fucks a man in Acapulco. This leads to a break up. Three weeks later he meets a Mexican doctor and moves in...for five years. When the affair ends he returns to California to a liberated sex scene...just before the outbreak of AIDS. This part deals with explicit sexual scenes. He is in San Francisco when AIDS surfaces... and volunteers at the AIDS Center. He describes a day on the hot lines. In the last section the AIDS crisis is in full stride. He is now working as an AIDS buddy with terminally ill men. There are case histories...and a summing up.

  • Pierre Et Gilles The Complete Works

The highly stylized portraits by the French photographers known simply by their first names, Pierre et Gilles, function unapologetically in the grand tradition of glamour photography. The subjects?whether they are stars of film, music, or fashion or just friends of the photographers?are both idealized and irrelevant when standing amid complex fantasy sets under layers of makeup in photographs that have been heavily retouched. This contradiction, which we know to have been most fully realized in the Hollywood star system of the Forties, is perhaps the only irony in the artists' body of work. These are simply beautiful images of beautiful people, produced as a sincere homage to the beauty of the human form.

  • Pop Out: Queer Warhol

Andy Warhol was queer in more ways than one. A fabulous queen, a fan of prurience and pornography, a great admirer of the male body, he was well known to the gay audiences who enjoyed his films, the police who censored them, the gallery owners who refused to show his male nudes, and the artists who shied away from his swishiness. These essays consider Warhol in various contexts and within the history of the communities in which he figured. 53 illustrations.
